Memories

Writer: Carrie WhiteheadCarrie Whitehead

The closer you get to certain days, the more the memories come.

Memories you may have thought you had forgotten.

Memories that break your heart all over again.

Memories that make you laugh and smile.

The tooth fairy wore a blue dress. Multitasking included chopsticks and texting. The little wiener dog that could squeeze between two people like nobody’s business. That one time I had to say a prayer right before I told someone when they dressed my child and paid for her clothes they could comment on what she wore to church. Didn’t hear anyone saying anything about how she wasn’t as classy as she thought. I knew how she tried to be a boyfriend stealer. Never said another word.

Sometimes people think they have the authority they don’t.

Bacon sundaes. Taco belle #7 whenever It was craved. Killing two deer to get it over with. The secret to deer slaying. I’ll never tell. That one time turn down for what freaked us out.

Bubba not griping when he drove us to a swim party in his truck. Rock band. Softball. Mac and cheese at 2 in the morning and all over the kitchen. Christmas eve fireworks and that hot chocolate that wasn’t.

Homecoming. Gigis cupcakes. Baja blast brain freeze.

I could go on but, there’s tomorrow. Mark 5:36 Overhearing what they said, Jesus told him, “Don’t be afraid; just believe.”

The righteous perish, and no one takes it to heart;  the devout are taken away, and no one understands that the righteous are taken away to be spared from evil.  Those who walk uprightly enter into peace, they find rest as they lie in death.

Isaiah 57:1-2
